The Arizona sun, unfortunately, can also take a toll on the skin, which is why patients visit our practice for anti-wrinkle and skin rejuvenation treatments. Combining nonsurgical skincare treatments and body contouring procedures helps our patients achieve the appearances they want with virtually no downtime.

In this blog post, I’ll describe a handful of these popular treatments that can help you feel more comfortable and confident when you’re wearing a bathing suit and want to put your best face forward.

CoolSculpting

For patients who live active lifestyles and who are already in relatively good overall shape, CoolSculpting can put the finishing touches on a contoured body by targeting trouble spots. CoolSculpting pioneered the nonsurgical fat reduction field, getting FDA approval in 2010 to treat the flanks (“love handles”). Since then, several specialized applicators have been developed and the treatment is now cleared by the FDA to treat several areas of the body, including the abdomen, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, and under the chin.

CoolSculpting works by “freezing” fat cells using a process called cryolipolysis. Fat cells die when exposed to cold temperatures, but these temperatures aren’t low enough to damage the skin or surrounding tissue. This fact makes CoolSculpting a very safe procedure. Many patients see some results with a single treatment, but most people benefit from getting 2 or 3 treatments. You can see the results achieved by a couple of our actual patients in before-and-after photos.

Cellfina®

Even people with little excess fat can have cellulite develop in areas such as the buttocks and thighs. That’s because the dimpled appearance is created when bands of connective tissue weave through fat and pull down on the skin. When those bands are severed, the released tension results in the skin appearing smooth. Cellfina treatments take about an hour and the provider numbs the area before using a small blade to surgically sever the bands. Downtime is minimal, with most patients returning to their normal routines after resting a day.

Microneedling

If your skin needs a pick-me-up, or you’re self-conscious about acne scars, microneedling may be the ideal solution. Microneedling’s effectiveness and limited downtime have made the procedure very popular. During treatment, several tiny needles create micro-injuries to the skin. These tiny injuries trigger the production of new collagen and elastin—the building blocks of smooth, youthful-looking skin—and help the skin efficiently absorb skin-nourishing serums.

Dermal Fillers

Along with BOTOX® Cosmetic, filler injections are the most popular nonsurgical treatments in the U.S. Years ago, plastic surgeons relied on 1 or 2 fillers as workhorses to treat most areas of the face. Now there are multiple fillers, each formulated to address specific aging concerns. A filler such as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®, for example, is injected deep into the cheeks to add volume, minimizing a sunken appearance, whereas VOLBELLA® is used to augment thin lips.
