The best nonsurgical facelift method depends on what you want to address. Neurotoxins, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, target expression lines, while dermal fillers and biostimulators restore lost volume and enhance facial contours. Combining treatments in a customized full-face rejuvenation plan can address several signs of aging at once.

The key is identifying what’s actually contributing to the changes you see. Wrinkles, hollow cheeks, and a less-defined jawline have different causes, so they don’t necessarily respond to the same treatment.

What’s Best for Expression Lines and Wrinkles?

BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport are often the best options for dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. These neurotoxins temporarily relax targeted muscles, softening lines while preserving natural facial movement.

Common treatment areas include forehead lines, crow’s feet, vertical frown lines between the brows, and horizontal forehead lines. Neurotoxins can also be used strategically around the mouth for concerns such as vertical lip lines or a gummy smile, or to create a subtle lip flip.

If wrinkles remain visible when your face is at rest, however, muscle activity may not be the only factor involved. Loss of volume and changes in the skin can contribute, making another treatment or a combination of treatments more appropriate.

What’s Best for Lost Facial Volume and Hollows?

Dermal fillers and biostimulators can restore facial volume that diminishes with age. Depending on the product and treatment area, they can add fullness directly, stimulate collagen production, or provide a combination of both effects.

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® can restore volume in areas such as the cheeks and temples and soften folds around the mouth. Biostimulators such as RADIESSE® and Sculptra® work differently by encouraging new collagen production. RADIESSE also provides immediate volume, while Sculptra produces more gradual changes as collagen develops.

The goal isn’t simply to “fill” every hollow or line. Thoughtful placement can restore facial proportions and support a refreshed appearance without making your features look overfilled.

What’s Best for Reshaping or Defining Facial Contours?

Dermal fillers, biostimulators, and neuromodulators can reshape or enhance certain facial contours without surgery. Treatment may add projection to the chin, define the jawline, enhance the cheeks or lips, or reduce the prominence of the masseter muscles.

When restoring volume or reshaping features, it’s especially important to look at the face as a whole. For example, improving chin projection can influence how the jawline appears in profile, while restoring cheek volume can improve the balance of the midface.

While it’s possible to reshape certain features of your face without surgery, injectables have limits. They can enhance existing contours and proportions; they cannot remove substantial excess skin or reposition significantly sagging facial tissues.

Does a Liquid Facelift Really Work?

A liquid facelift can work well for mild to moderate signs of facial aging, including wrinkles, volume loss, and changes in facial contours. It’s most effective when treatments are selected and placed according to your anatomy rather than using a one-size-fits-all combination of injectables.

A “liquid facelift” is another way of describing a nonsurgical approach that combines injectable treatments to rejuvenate multiple areas of the face. At Advanced Skin Lounge, this customized approach is called full face rejuvenation. Read our related blog post for details about how we use it for prejuvenation.

Despite the name, however, a liquid facelift isn’t the nonsurgical equivalent of facelift surgery. Injectables can restore volume, soften wrinkles, and create the appearance of improved contours, but they don’t surgically lift and reposition facial tissues.

When Is a Surgical Facelift the Better Choice?

A surgical facelift may be the better choice when loose skin and sagging tissues are significant enough that injectables cannot adequately address them. Facelift surgery can remove excess skin and reposition underlying tissues to produce more substantial, longer-lasting rejuvenation.

That distinction matters if you’re trying to decide how far nonsurgical treatment can take you. Adding more filler isn’t necessarily the answer when the primary concern is tissue laxity. An experienced provider can help you determine whether injectables can realistically accomplish your goals or whether a surgical consultation makes more sense.

How Do You Choose the Right Nonsurgical Facelift?

Choosing the right nonsurgical facelift starts with your concerns, facial anatomy, and desired degree of change. A personalized treatment plan may use one injectable or combine neuromodulators, fillers, and biostimulators to address different aspects of facial aging.

At Advanced Skin Lounge by Advanced Plastic Surgery Institute, your injector can assess your facial structure and recommend a treatment plan designed around your needs. The goal is a balanced result that refreshes your appearance while still looking like you.
